Wendy Wax’s latest book, Magnolia Wednesdays, should really be called “I’ve Got a Secret.” The characters in this book have so many secrets, and the book drops so many bombshells, you’ll feel like you’re under fire.
Just read the opening salvo:
“Well-bred girls from good Southern families are not supposed to get shot.”
Forty-one-year-old Vivien Armstrong Gray or “Vivi,” the main character, gets herself in so much trouble, you’ll wonder how Wendy is going to write her way out of it. It starts when the unmarried investigative TV reporter gets a bullet in her backside during an undercover exposé in New York City and becomes the butt of everyone’s joke on YouTube. Then she loses her job and finds out she’s pregnant and that’s just in the first four chapters.
When she moves into her sister Melanie’s house in suburban Atlanta, she begins secretly investigating her brother-in-law’s death and uncovers more than she bargained for.
But Vivi isn’t the only one keeping secrets. All of the four women who form friendships at Melanie’s ballroom dance studio, Magnolia Ballroom, have something to hide and something to learn. The book is full of fun and surprises, as Vivi tries to cultivate a relationship with her sister and navigate a bond with her troubled teenage niece and nephew as well as her own dysfunctional family.
She keeps the biggest secret of all from dashing network senior international correspondent Stone Seymour, who never finds out he’s the father of Vivi’s baby until the end of the last chapter.
If you want to get a goodnight’s sleep, don’t start reading this book because you won’t be able to put it down.
BUT, if you want an exciting read, thrilling all the way to the end, then Magnolia Wednesdays is for you.
