New Life

By Susan Carlisle

The spring is all about new growth, new life.

Our house is especially full of new life this year. It seems like everything is coming up in my yard double time. All the ground cover has spread, the grass is greener. My son has even had to cut the grass twice this week. I’ve added more flowers in the hope that l’ll have even new life next year.

Saturday, I hosted a bridesmaids’ luncheon for a lifelong friend of my daughter. Her friend will be getting married this coming weekend. That will be the beginning of a new life together. I wish the new couple the best of everything.

Three weeks ago my son’s cat had kittens. One gold, one white and one gray. I call them Goldie, Ghost, and Tuggs. The kittens are so sweet and are just now starting to walk. I will hate to see them leave with someone when the time comes but I do know it will have to happen. Another shining example of new life.

But I have more. Friday night my married daughter came by the house with a cake that had May May piped on the top. That was her way of telling me that I will be a grandmother in December. I want to be called May May. The thought of this new life makes my heart swell. The father is the guy in green. These are my kids at Easter. Joseph, Zach, Mary Beth, Nick and Drew.

Tell me about anything new in your life. Or just some go old fashioned good news.

WooHOO! May, May! I like it. My youngest grand calls me “Moi, Moi.” Don’t ask, cause I don’t know how grandma turned into that.

Congratulations on your wonderful news. I love that name May May. Flowers are blooming all over my yard too. I just visited my daughter in New York and we had a wonderful time. We saw two plays, saw a Renoir exhibit at The Frick, went shopping and took a tour of the Tenement Museum. And had some great meals. And we bought a small digital camera so I can take pictures when my sister and I go on a trip to Spain in June.

I think May May is adorable. Congratulations all round.

I’ve already said so via e-mail, but CONGRATULATIONS, May May! I’m so happy for you. I like your furry babies.

More good news for you: I might be persuaded to adopt a :cat2: since you’re coming this way soon. Call me. We’ll talk. ;)

Right now, everything seems fresh and new and I love it. The kittens are cute, your family is beautiful and that grandbaby could not have a better May May!

Linsey Lanier - April 16, 2012 - 12:14 pm

Congratulations on the grandbaby, Susan. I know you’re thrilled. What nice-looking kids you have.

The dogwoods and azaleas bloomed a few weeks ago here. I’ll have to check out what they’re doing when I go out,now that it’s warm again.

Ah, the promise of spring! Your yard sounds lovely, your luncheon divine. I would offer to adopt one of those kitties if my middle son wasn’t allergic. And your going to be a May May! That is WONDERFUL news! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Thanks so much. My mother went from Grandmother to Plum Plum when my daughter was born. She was afraid she was going to be called Blum Blum at one point. you never know what they will come up with.

It sound like you and your daughter had a wonderful time. Your spring is starting off wonderfully. The trip to Spain sound like great fun.

Susan Carlisle - April 16, 2012 - 1:28 pm

Thanks for stop by.

Susan Carlisle - April 16, 2012 - 1:28 pm

We will have to talk kitten.

If I come your way some time during the Dogwood Festival would you show me around? We had all the pretty flowers a couple of weeks ago. I’m jealous you still have them.

Susan Carlisle - April 16, 2012 - 1:32 pm

Thanks for the compliments. I love living in this area in the spring. The flowers and trees are unbelievablly pretty.

Susan Carlisle - April 16, 2012 - 1:35 pm

Thanks Pam. You always say the right thing.

Dianna Love - April 16, 2012 - 3:30 pm

Wow, have you been busy, Susan. I haven’t had a chance to get out in my yard in the last few years and thoroughly enjoyed spending all day Saturday with my husband planting and moving things around. Your luncheon sounds wonderful. BTW – I love this new look for the blog!

Tammy Schubert - April 16, 2012 - 3:44 pm

May May, congratulations! I’m so excited for you.

Pamela Mason - April 16, 2012 - 5:21 pm

Congratulations!! May May is an adorable name, and you won’t collide with all the Mimi’s & MawMaws & MeeMaws out there!
Love the kittens too – but I’ve raised my share. I remember when we had a cat with a litter, we put them on the screened in back porch. Every day was like Christmas morning with tumbling furballs of mewing mischief. Have fun!

Susan Carlisle - April 16, 2012 - 5:59 pm

Thanks for all the best wishes. Yard work is one of those things I have to spent a whole day twice a year in the fall and spring getting things under control then I maintain the rest of the time.
I agree on the blog. It is a great look!

Susan Carlisle - April 16, 2012 - 6:10 pm

Thanks Pam. The kittens are fun. They are mobile now so we have to be careful when we drive.

Susan Carlisle - April 16, 2012 - 6:10 pm

Thanks Tammy.

Sandra Elzie - April 16, 2012 - 7:08 pm

Congratulations again! This is your year, lady. Multi-book contract, grandchild, new kittens (I’m trying to convince hubby to let me try one with my older King-of-the-House. Don’t know if he’ll accept a baby or not.)

I seldom get out in the yard…I want it to look nice, but I hate working in the yard. I’d rather have wisdom teeth pulled. Thank goodness hubby likes to mess out there or I’d be paying someone.

Sandra Elzie - April 16, 2012 - 7:10 pm

Oh, I forgot to tell you that you have a great looking family! Congrats on them also!

Susan Carlisle - April 16, 2012 - 8:32 pm

It has been a good year. The kittens are extra cute but they’ll soon grow into cats. Like babies you have to enjoy them everyday. I like yard work but I’m not a great fan of watering. Thanks for the kind words about my kids.

Tami Brothers - April 17, 2012 - 10:50 pm

OMG!!!!! May May!!!! You will be the best grandmother and we had better see pictures of that baby shower. I know you and I know that shower is going to be awesome. :)

Major congrats, Susan! You have a wonderful family and I’m thrilled for you.
