Do you ever feel like the universe really IS out to get you?
You know, where you’re rolling along, finally making some real progress. The train’s not only running smoothly, but picking up speed. Opportunity isn’t just knocking, it’s kicking the door down. All the windows are thrown open letting the light of endless possibilities spill over you in glorious warmth. Umm, I’m sure you get the picture. <g>
NOW is of the essence.
Then – BAM! Murphy’s Law takes over.
More inevitable than Newton’s Law of Gravity. More destructive than Newton’s Law of Motion – to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
We’ve all been there at one time or another – probably lots of times.
Well, Murphy’s diabolical plan for me this time has taken the form of migraines. Everything from that low-grade, nagging pain that just won’t let go, but doesn’t want me to stare at a computer screen too long either, with the occasional porcelain hugging game-changer thrown in for fun.
It’s times like these we need to stay armed with optimism, stick to the plan and keep our blessings foremost in our minds – even if it’s simply that we’re glad for indoor plumbing. <g>
Seriously, I’m working a plan. Step one, Migraines for Dummies. Step two, keep a headache journal to find my triggers and avoid them one by one. Step three, stay positive and make the most of every day.
And to that end I want to recommend a fantastically uplifting blog I found one day….because even though Murphy has been working overtime lately, I’m keeping my windows open.
So share, when was the last time you had a run in with Murphy?

Hey Darcy! So sorry for the headaches. I know those can be awful.
Last time I had a run in with Murphy’s Law. Hmmmm… Have to say just yesterday. Had a lot on my mind. Trying to do more than one thing at a time. Tried to open a door at work (in front of 10+ guys no less), was pushing on the wrong side. Took me a couple of pushes to figure it out. Lots of laughter ensues.
Break to the post offices after work. Finished purchasing some stamps, apologized to the guy behind me for taking so long because they didn’t have the envelope I needed, tried pushing on the door without looking at it, realized I was NOT pushing on a door. So moved over. Pushed on the door. Yep, you guessed it. Wrong side. Nice guy kindly points that out. Hangs heard embarrassed.
Next to store after that. Those doors ARE automatic. I really shouldn’t have had this kind of a run in. AGAIN! Same story. Different location. Different door. Another kind guy pointed me to the right side.
I really wish it ended there. But of course, I stopped for pizza. Yes. Another door. Then stopped to get gas. This time door not my fault. Lady had not unlocked that side of the double doors. On to home. Wouldn’t you know it. Hubby had glass screen door locked so dog wouldn’t accidentally knock it open.
That was my day yesterday. I’m hoping to leave Murphy home today.
Best of luck with those headaches. My prayers are with you.
Hugs!
Tami
I’m so sorry you have to deal with those headaches. I get headaches too but thankfully they’re not migraines. I’ve experienced door issues like Tami but no one was around to witness it. Hope Murphy stays away from you.
I’m also sorry for your headaches, Darcy. I used to get migraines in college. No fun at all. Wonder if it’s from eye strain?
Murphy’s Law? I’d have to say every day, but that’s because I work with computers and test software. Things never go right. I won’t go into the boring details of my day yesterday (Tami’s door adventure made me laugh). I’ll just say I felt like a rat in a maze who keeps running into walls and never gets to the cheese.
So that link is very encouraging. Thanks for sharing it. I especially like this one:
“The more you love your decisions, the less you need others to love them.”
I wishyou luck with your migrains. Hubby went to doc, took some pills, the headaches rarely come back. I wish you luck! All-in-all, I’m a pretty lucky girl. Don’t always get what I want/wish for, but I figure it’s for the best, but it is easy to slip every once in a while.
Tami, it seems like it can only get better
Darcy, I can empathize with the havoc migraines cause in one’s life. I suffer from chronic migraines and my life revolves around them. When I get one, it lasts for days. On a positive note, I found help and have went from being in pain 75% of the time to just 25%. It still isn’t easy, but I’m thankful for the pain free days.
I also love Marc and Angel’s blog. I discovered it while going through a severe depression after the death of my father. It’s has been a tremendous help in my everyday life.
Great post!
So sorry to hear about the migraines, Darcy. My sister used to have them so I know how incapacitating they can be. Someone told her to take a shot of something high-carb at the first sign that one was coming on (orange juice or a muffin worked for her) and it helps alleviate the attack; you might want to try that and see if it works for you.
And Murphy just slammed me good. I was so happy that I got a raise last month, thinking I would finally be able to keep up with the bills. Then my husband had a stroke. Now I not only have twice as many bills but I have half as much money because of all the time I have to take off to take him to appointments and therapy. He’s very gung-ho and improving rapidly, though, so that’s what matters.
Ah, Darcy, I hate to hear those dratted migraines are plaguing you again. Big hugs!
As for Murphy’s Law, I can’t think of anything recently. Loved Tami’s story about the doors though. Funny!
@EC: Damn that Murphy! I hate to hear of your troubles, because I know how frustrating it must be for you both. Cyber hugs coming your way, too.
Tami! That’s just too funny. I can see one or two doors, but every door! Thanks for giving me a laugh today.
And thanks for the prayers.
Hi Marilyn, yeah, these headaches are the worst. At least I’ve got this book…and a plan, so maybe this will help.
@ Linsey, yes I thought of eyestrain too & had my eyes checked again. Doc says it’s really not too likely. Ugh. Glad you like the link. I subscribe so I get a post from them every couple days….really good stuff!
Thanks, Maxine! Love to know what pills they gave your hubby! You can email me privately if you want.
@ Missy! Nice to meet you.
I’d love to know what you found for migraine help. Sorry to hear about your father. That’s never easy. I’m glad you pulled through okay. Yes, Marc and Angel are wonderful!
Hi EC! Thanks for the tip about the high carbs. I’ve also heard to be sure to eat protein at every meal – which I try to do. I’ll give the orange juice a try.
And I’ so sorry to hear about your husband! Puts everything else in perspective, doesn’t it? I’m glad he’s improving and will keep you both in my prayers.
@ Carol, thanks for the hug! I’m taking it one day at a time – and keeping my fingers crossed about Anaheim. I’ll be drinking tons of water…..Can’t wait to see you soon!! Yay.
I have those headaches too. I just have to stop what I’m doing and give into them. Murphy Law always happens the minute I think life is going well.
Hope you feel better.
Darcy,
So sorry about your headaches. Hugging the commode is no fun. But you have a great attitude and I believe that will help.
Funny, I used to work for a guy named Murphy. He comes in my life in cycles… big and small issues. I don’t know if you caught my blog on the GPS.
I hope you’re feeling better soon.
@EC, You and your hubby are in my prayers. My hubby had a heartattack at 43. Very scary emotionally & financially. I’m glad you got that raise. Hope your hubby keeps getting stronger.
Life seems to knock me around a good bit of the time, but I refuse to see my glass as half full. Thanks for the link to the blog post – great stuff! I used to be plagued with migraines; after the neurologist ruled out all the really bad stuff, he put me on Inderal as a preventive drug. For me, it was a miracle; instead of having a migraine every two or three days, I had one every two or three weeks. He also gave me Imitrex to treat the headaches when they happened. I am happy to say that now that I am through menopause I rarely have a headache. Good luck!
Migraines, UGH! Hubby used to have them daily. His biggest trigger? Dehydration. Just plain not drinking enough water all the time.
