Two authors dish on #writing and #food with #giveaway

Katherine Garbera and Nancy Robards ThompsonHarlequin Desire author Katherine Garbera and Special Edition author Nancy Robards Thompson are sharing today’s post. The two of us have final books in our most recent series out in November and we decided to celebrate this with a blog tour. From the very beginning Nancy and I have always had two things that we chat about writing and food.  I’m a bit of a closet foodie and not at all snobby about food.  Nancy is a true gourmand and has introduced me to some fabulous new tastes over the years. So when we both realized that we’d written books that featured reality TV and food we weren’t surprised!

So today we’re (both Nancy and I and our main characters) throwing a dinner party and inviting a few fictional guests.

Harlequin Desire cover art for Calling All The Shots by Katherine GarberaKathy:  First off let me introduce you to Willow Stead and Jack Crown from Calling All The Shots.  They both grew up in Texas in a suburb of Dallas and now work in the fabulous television industry.  Jack is a bit like Ryan Seacrest in that he has a fabulous grin, hosts a couple of shows and seems to do no wrong.  Willow is more behind the scenes and quiet, still waters run deep in this lady.  So Willow and Jack, who are you bringing to our dinner party?

Willow:  I’d love to have a meal with the Texas Artist Charles Berkendorf  because his landscapes remind me of home and some Frito Pie  because I’m definitely not a chef.

Jack:  Well, I’ll definitely be bringing a bottle of wine from the Paloma Vineyard, you know I’m their celebrity spokesman and a decadent dessert from a fabulous bakery I know in San Diego…Sweet Dreams.  My guest is harder, when Willow’s around I like just being with her.  I’d bring Terry Bradshaw, we could talk football and Hollywood.

Kathy:  I’m bringing homemade manicotti from my family’s recipe and as my guest I think I’ll be bringing along Robert Downey Jr and not just because he’s a hottie!  I think he’d be so fascinating to have a conversation with.

Nancy:  This dinner party is a great idea. It will be fun. I’ll bring along Hugh Jackman, too. How’s that for something delicious? I don’t know that I’ll need anything else to feast on. Just kidding! I’ll bring a Caesar salad to complement your scrumptious  manicotti.

Harlequin Special Edition cover for Texas Christmas by Nancy Robards ThompsonMy hero and heroine from TEXAS CHRISTMAS are so excited to be here, too.  Everyone, please meet Robert Macintyre and Pepper Merriweather.  Pepper is especially looking forward to this dinner party because she needs something to get her mind off her family troubles. Her super-wealthy daddy was arrested for fraud—and the family fortune is kaput – just before the holidays. Pepper suddenly finds herself in need of a job. Despite her high-society connections, no one wants to give her a chance—no one except gorgeous billionaire recluse Robert Macintyre. He may not be into the Dallas social scene, but he has a heart of gold.

Pepper:  It’s so nice to meet everyone! I’d love to have dinner in my family home but since that’s not in the cards I’m so grateful to be dining with you all.  I’ve also invited my style icon Audrey Hepburn. I really don’t know my way around the kitchen, even though I’m part of the Celebrations, Inc. catering company. My forte is more front of the house. But my good friends A.J. Sherwood-Antonelli-Harrison and Caroline Coopersmith-Montgomery are fabulous cooks and the heart and soul of Celebrations, Inc. A.J.  has whipped up a delicious beef wellington and Caroline has sent along one of her famous for her red velvet cake.

Robert:  I’ve always wanted to have a conversation with Mark Twain. He’s the perfect balance of brains and humor. I’ve always admired men with quick wit.  Actually, women, too.  In fact, that’s one of the things that attracted me to Pepper. As for the dish I’ll bring lobster with drawn butter and champagne and dark chocolate-dipped strawberries for dessert. Those are three of Pepper’s favorite things.

Wow, Katherine and Nancy have some fabulous guests at this party. You’re invited, so come on in, grab a plate and tell us what and who you’re bringing and you’ll be entered to win a $10 Amazon electronic gift card!

Thanks for the invite to the party, Katherine and Nancy. I’m going to bring some cupcake from Magnolia Bakery. I want to bring Agatha Christie. Maybe she can devise a murder mystery game for us to play.

Carol Burnside - November 27, 2012 - 1:14 am

Yum! Yesterday we were talking about our favorite Thanksgiving Day eats and sharing recipes, so I’ll bring a half dozen Southern Pecan Pies to share.

As for guest list – WOW, ladies! Already we have Charles Berkendorf, Terry Bradshaw, Robert Downey Jr, Hugh Jackman, Audrey Hepburn and Agatha Christie and your fine selves too. So…I decided to invite Buffy the Vampire Slayer, just in case Agatha’s game gets out of hand. She’ll protect us from evil. After all, it’s her job. At the very least, she could entertain us with tales of her exploits.

Marilyn Baron - November 27, 2012 - 5:31 am

What a fun idea. I’ll bring Andrea Bocelli to serenade us at Pepper and Robert’s party and some spaghetti and white clam sauce to go with the lobster dinner.

Thanks for blogging with us and best of luck with your new releases.

C.E. Hart - November 27, 2012 - 7:58 am

Well a party wouldn’t be complete without great music! I’ll ask Frank Sinatra to come along. His crooning voice will surely add excitement–and even when he’s not singing we can just stare into his dreamy blue eyes!

Pam Asberry - November 27, 2012 - 8:33 am

I’ll bring garlic shrimp and cheese grits. And I’m coming solo. Maybe I will meet someone special. :-)

Maxine - November 27, 2012 - 2:42 pm

Wow. I’m bringing Hercule Poirot – just in case someone dies, he can solve the crime. I’m also bringing pralines made with Georgia pecans.

Susan Carlisle - November 27, 2012 - 8:59 pm

Sounds like a great party. I’m pouring the sweet iced tea for those none drinkers. Daniel Craig should be coming through the door, any minute.

Mary Preston - November 28, 2012 - 3:39 am

I’ll bring Port Wine Trifle – no driving afterwards. I’m taking car keys.

I’ve been re-reading Dickens lately, so I think he would add a little something extra to the conversation.

Sandy Elzie - December 5, 2012 - 7:55 am

Since I’m late to the party, just let me say that I can’t wait to read Texas Christmas.

Good luck ladies & may you have a very Merry Christmas!
