The First Time . . .

by Maxine Davis

I can’t help it.  I’m standing at the mailbox ripping the package open.  It’s here.  I hold it gently in my hands.  I can’t believe it.  It is shades of blue and is beautiful. And my name, Maxine Davis, is on the cover.  This is the book that contains my first published fiction composition.  It is a short story called, Sweet Revenge, and it appears in the book, Seasons and Seashells, A Sweet Romance Anthology.

Oh, I know my name is only one of seven on the cover, but I couldn’t be happier. It’s 3,230 words which includes a lot of time, typing and retyping, not to mention sweat, and maybe a tired tear or two.  And it is worth every minute I sat in front of my computer.

I’ve heard others squeal, cry and talk about sleeping with their book under their pillow.  I probably won’t sleep with it under my pillow, but as soon as I got in the house, I found a quiet corner in the Butler’s Pantry and sat and read my story, from my book that has my name on it.

It is a feeling like no other.  I do plan other books, hopefully soon, but you know what?  I don’t think this feeling will ever get old.

I feel exactly the same way, Maxine. And I am proud that my name is on that cover along with yours. :-)

You sound so happy & rightly so.

Pam, I think we look great together. We should do this more often :)

Maxine - February 5, 2013 - 3:25 am

Thank you, Laura. I didn’t come up with the title, but I do like it.

Maxine - February 5, 2013 - 3:27 am

Mary, I am. I think it’s called either siliness or giddiness, but I don’t care today. Thank you for stopping by.

I’m proud to be your fellow co-author in the anthology and I’ll never forget how excited you were at the last GRW meeting when we were about to get our first copies of the print version of the book. It is pretty and the stories are great. Congratulations.

Maxine, Your excitement is obvious…I’m so happy for you. :-D I know this will be just the beginning for you.

Marilyn, I’m so proud you are on the cover, too. I’m in wonderful company! Thank you all for putting up with a first timer.

Sandy, Thank you so much for your confidence. This certainly wasn’t your first, but I think you were excited, too. It’s fun!

I know exactly how you feel. Seasons and Seashells was my first print book. It was a joy to open the box and see my name on the cover.

Carol, I’m glad our names were on it together – and I did love your story!

Elaine, Thank you. I didn’t think I would be this thrilled. Hope to do it again soon. (I apologize for the late response)

Hi Hildie, That you for commenting. This is new to me; I hope to get another out there soon so I can feel it again. Tell me it doesn’t get old. (I apologize for the late response)
