by Maxine Davis
I can’t help it. I’m standing at the mailbox ripping the package open. It’s here. I hold it gently in my hands. I can’t believe it. It is shades of blue and is beautiful. And my name, Maxine Davis, is on the cover. This is the book that contains my first published fiction composition. It is a short story called, Sweet Revenge, and it appears in the book, Seasons and Seashells, A Sweet Romance Anthology.
Oh, I know my name is only one of seven on the cover, but I couldn’t be happier. It’s 3,230 words which includes a lot of time, typing and retyping, not to mention sweat, and maybe a tired tear or two. And it is worth every minute I sat in front of my computer.
I’ve heard others squeal, cry and talk about sleeping with their book under their pillow. I probably won’t sleep with it under my pillow, but as soon as I got in the house, I found a quiet corner in the Butler’s Pantry and sat and read my story, from my book that has my name on it.
It is a feeling like no other. I do plan other books, hopefully soon, but you know what? I don’t think this feeling will ever get old.
