I recently stopped at the book section in my local Wal-Mart to get a book to read while we rode on a two-hour trip home. I love author Diana Palmer, and I love cowboys, so, naturally, I picked up Nelson’s Brand. I was thrilled that it also contained a second book, Lonetree Rancher: Colt by another great author, Kathie DeNosky. It wasn’t until after I finished the two stories that I noticed Harlequin had republished these stories that had originally been published in 1991 and 2003, respectively. I must have missed them way back then, so I’m glad they were chosen for reissue.
“Allison Hathoway’s life was about healing. And she was good at it. Or had been good at it until the tragedy in South America. Now she couldn’t even fix herself. She didn’t know how to go on, didn’t know what to do, or who to be.
She had that in common with Gene Nelson. After the rancher found out the truth about his father, he’d realized his whole life was a lie. He’d gone a little wild and saw no reason not to give In to his every desire. And the minute he saw Allison, he wanted her. But underneath their explosive passion, Allison and Gene found comfort in each other’s wounded souls. And a chance to start over.”
Diana Palmer has written more than a hundred books and is an acclaimed NYT and USA TODAY bestselling author. She creates great characters with believable flaws and then weaves a story around them that grabs the reader and won’t let go until you close the book at the end. Our hero, Gene Nelson, starts out tarnished…in fact, very wounded, but then he sets his sights on Allison Hathoway. Despite his best attempts to get her to open up and tell him about herself, she keeps her history a mystery. If he could only get her to trust him and share her past, maybe they’d stand a chance. Life has given them both some hefty kicks and they’re drawn closer and closer together as they strive to overcome the obstacles.
I thoroughly enjoyed Allison and Gene’s story and was very satisfied with how they worked things out in the end.
LONETREE RANCHERS: COLT
“All it took was one glance at the toddler in Kaylee Simpson’s arms for Colt Wakefield to know the two-year-old was his. He’d do almost anything to win Kaylee’s trust and claim her and his child as his own, once and for all!”
Kathie Denosky has been on the USA TODAY AND WALDENBOOKS bestseller lists, not to mention other awards that she has received. The back-drop of this story, the third in the Lonetree Ranchers series, is cowboys who participate in rodeos and Ms. Denosky enjoys going to rodeos to research her books.
This story particularly appealed to me…almost more than the first one in the book…since I love big, strong men who become mush in the presence of their child. I also love a story where unrequited love is rekindled and there’s a happily-ever-after ending. Ms. Denosky did a great job of writing the adorable two-year-old daughter who is very shy, at first, around the big man, and then, gradually warms up to him and eventually is calling him Daddy. I also loved how the hero did a few extremely thoughtful things to get the woman he loved to stay with him. I had no trouble believing that Colt…(don’t you just love that name for a cowboy?)…would go to great lengths to get Kaylee to remain at the ranch and allow them to become a true family.
I whole-heartedly recommend this book for anyone who likes to read tender love-stories. You won’t be disappointed…and the heat level between the two main characters is just right to keep you turning the pages late into the night. Enjoy!
