Tis the Season to be…Organized

By Hildie McQueen

For most writers, the holiday season is not only a time to clean things up a bit, but also a time to look forward to the next year.

Personally this is when I write up a list of all the conferences I’m interested in, I write them on my dry erase board along with a schedule and mull over what which ones I plan to attend. For a list of all writers’ conferences I recommend Author EMS it’s pretty comprehensive.

During this month, I also make a clearer list that includes my writing deadlines and book release dates.  This list is not only tacked up on my board, but a copy is tucked into my day planner and in my purse.

Yearly goals don’t have to be complicated, make your list and give yourself soft deadlines where you can.  If you type your list up and have it all there in front of you, it makes things so much easier believe me!  You will see those places where you’ll have time to travel, or time to plan time to get away and write alone.

And there is another bonus to getting this done and over with.  You’ll enjoy the holiday time with your family more now that you have a plan.

I wish every one of you a wonderful Christmas, New Year and that all those other fun holiday events be merry and bright!

Stay Organized!

What a great idea. I’ll have to try that. I coykd have used it this year. My number one goal will be to get my office organized.

My critique group usually goes on a one or two day retreat this time of year to plan writing goals and brainstorm and plot new writing ideas. We haven’t done that this season due to “life” happening. We’ll have to improvise.

Happy Holidays!!

Good idea, Hildie! Great minds think alike. I am in the process of creating my own dry erase annual wall calendar just for those reasons. Thanks for the link!

I have dropped the ball where my writing is concerned since M&M. I have great excuses but if I’m going to make my dreams come true I’m going to have to get my act together. I think your suggestions would really help me! Thanks!

It’s hard to stay on track, sometimes I just throw my arms in the air and say. “Okay let’s start over.” ;-)

Hi HIldie, First response didn’t show up. I have no idea why. Anyway, I think you are brilliant to take these steps. I’ve got to settle down; hubby retired last summer and it is taking some getting used to. Nice though. Thank you for your fantastic tips!
