Chocolate and Coffee: Reading and Signing

By Marilyn Baron

Two sister Wild Rose Press Authors (Linda Joyce and Melissa Klein) and I participated in our third book reading and signing at Abundant Grounds Café in Kennesaw, Georgia, and we had a really nice turnout.

We had prepared paper bags of chocolate candy and we each gave away a gift bag related to our books. We did readings and talked about our writing journey. People seemed to enjoy it.

Our first two readings were at bookstores. Reading at Abundant Grounds Café was a departure, but it was interesting. I would recommend teaming up with another author or authors. It’s more fun and it gives readers some variety. It’s a good idea to take a theme from your book and tie that in to your signing location. For example, if you feature knitting in your book, hold the reading at a knitting shop. We are authors with The Wild Rose Press, so we wanted to arrange to sign at the garden store.  That may be next on our list when we resume our signings in the fall. We’re trying to think of some out-of-the-box ideas.

Hints: Bring a white tablecloth, arrange for the store to have a signing table and chairs for the guests. In addition to your books, make sure to have some bookmarkers or postcards to give away in case people want to buy an eBook when they get home. Bring signing pens. Have water on hand for the authors. Have index cards and a bag for drawing prizes. Ask guests to sign up for your newsletter if they want to. It would be great to have some set up help (husbands, children, friends).

And, above all, have fun!

Here are some pictures of our event.

I’m glad you had a wonderful event. It looks like you had fun. I agree, teaming up with another author is the way to go. I’m reading Under the Moon Gate now and loving it.

Thank you so much for commenting. I appreciate it.

The book signing at Abundant Grounds was especially fun since I got a chance to reconnect with two women from my high school days. Then again, I always have fun at our signings. The three of us make a great team. Looking forward to organizing more out-of-the-box book signings this fall.

Thanks, we really did have fun. Thank you for reading Under the Moon Gate. I think you’ll appreciate it because you love history and this historical, which is actually a romantic thriller, has a lot of WW II history.

Thanks again for being such a great partner. Our signings are always fun and interesting especially because we’re doing it together.

It’s been a great pleasure to have book signings with you and Melissa. I think one of the best things is that we’ve been creative and made each signing different, so even if folks have been to one, there’s always something new that we do for each event.

And we need to plan something for the fall.

Warmest Regards,

Looking forward to future signings with you and Melissa and more chocolate candy.

Thanks. Each book signing is different.

Having other authors sign with you is a great idea. Less pressure and more attendees. I also like the idea of prizes and having the signing in unusual places.

Great job, Marilyn!

Marilyn, it looks like another successful signing! Congratulations to you, Linda, and Melissa. Hope you have many more successful ones.

Thank you very much. We appreciate you attending one of our signings.

Carol Burnside - May 29, 2014 - 3:45 pm

Thanks for sharing your experience and methods. It sounds like fun. I wish I still lived close enough to attend. :-(

Have you ever thought about having attendees bring their e-readers? They could buy your e-books on the spot and request an authorgraph.

Marilyn Baron - May 29, 2014 - 5:03 pm

That’s a good idea. What we did is bring bookmarks and postcards and hoped people went home and downloaded the books if they preferred an eBook. I wish you lived closer, too.

Walt Mussell - May 29, 2014 - 10:21 pm

Marilyn, it does look like it was fun. (Stll can’t wait for the day I finally have one.)

Marilyn Baron - May 29, 2014 - 11:11 pm

I am sure you will have a signing and I hope it’s soon.

Sandy Elzie - May 30, 2014 - 1:59 pm

Hi Marilyn,
It looks like you have a fantastic time! Like others, I wish I could have been there.

I love book readings and signings where there’s time to actually talk with the author. Great promotional opportunity.

Mitchell Barnes - June 4, 2014 - 4:03 pm
