Adventure, Drama, Fantasy, Rated PG-13

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, is the final adventure in the Harry Potter film series. The much-anticipated motion picture event is the second of two full-length parts.

In the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climatic showdown with Lord Voldemort.

It all ends here.

Also offered in IMAX

Harry, Ron and Hermione are searching for the last of the horcruxes. This is a fast-paced, close-to-the-book movie not to be missed! Stay for the entire list of credits. This movie and the official site for this movie lists all stars and the characters they played. I absolutely loved this movie. I will buy it, and I will reread all the books. J. K. Rowling’s seven-book series was made into eight movies.

Since Brian and Mia Toretto broke Dom out of custody, they’ve blown across many borders to elude authorities. Now backed into a corner in Rio de Janeiro, they must pull one last job in order to gain their freedom. They know their only shot of getting out for good means confronting the more »corrupt businessman who wants them dead. But he’s not the only one on their tail. When hard-nosed federal agent Luke Hobbs is assigned to track down Dom and Brian, he and his strike team launch an all-out assault. But, Hobbs learns he can’t separate the good guys from the bad. Now, he must rely on his instincts to corner his prey — before someone else runs them down first.

Okay, I’m going to step out and say it: I’m a Vin Diesel fan. Plus, what’s not to like about Paul Walker and his big blue eyes? This is the fifth movie of the “Fast and Furious” series and I’ve seen them all. Yes, all. So you can guess that I might have liked this one also. I did, I thought it was one of the best of the group. If you enjoy good looking guys, fast cars, on the edge of your seat storylines this movie is for you. I will be watching it over and over. It gets an A+ from me.

Sony Pictures

PG-13

ASIN: B002ZG97J2

Based on a true story

From Yahoo Movies:

From his working class roots, John Crowley has finally begun to taste success in corporate America. Supported by his beautiful wife Aileen and their three children, John is on the fast track. But just as his career is taking off, Crowley walks away from it all when his two youngest children, Megan and Patrick, are diagnosed with a fatal disease.

With Aileen by his side, harnessing all of his skill and determination, Crowley teams up with a brilliant, but unappreciated and unconventional scientist, Dr. Robert Stonehill. Together they form a bio-tech company focused on developing a life-saving drug.

One driven to prove himself and his theories, the other by a chance to save his children, this unlikely alliance eventually develops into mutual respect as they battle the medical and business establishments in a fight against the system and time. But, at the last minute, when it appears that a solution has been found, the relationship between the two men faces a final test – the outcome of which will affect the fate of John’s children.

Like this states above, this movie is based on the true story of a parent’s love for his children and the extraordinary measures he and his wife are willing to take. I’ve heard some people shied away from this movie thinking it wouldn’t end well. But let me tell you, this is one movie that is more than worth your time and money. We laughed, we cried and by the end felt so empowered by hope and the spirit of faith we wanted to reach out and be a part of making a difference in someone’s life. Watch it. You’ll be so glad you did.

Trailer:

 http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810120879/trailer

http://www.sonyclassics.com/thesecretintheireyes/

“The Secret in Their Eyes,” this year’s winner of the Oscar for best foreign-language film at the Academy Awards®, is a movie worth seeing.

In Spanish, with English subtitles, “The Secret in Their Eyes,” has it all – a 25-year-old unsolved crime, a story of unrequited love, and one man’s obsession with his young wife’s violent death. A first-class thriller, the movie is also humorous, and very well acted and written. I wasn’t familiar with any of the actors or the writer-director, but the film was stellar and completely absorbing.

After 25 years, Benjamin Esposito, a retired criminal investigator, can’t get a brutal rape and murder out of his mind and now he wants to write about the case. He returns to his old office where his former boss, Irene, who he also can’t get off his mind, now works as a judge.

The film flashes back and forth in time from 1974 (during the rule of Eva Peron) to 2000 Buenos Aires. The movie is about how Benjamin and Irene work together to solve the case and about their lost chance at love. There is a poignant scene at the train station that is reminiscent of “Casablanca.”

One character, Sandoval, Benjamin’s alcoholic assistant is particularly engaging.

A typewriter with a broken “A” plays a key comedic role. At times, the film will frighten you and the ending will shock and surprise you.

I highly recommend this film as a “must-see.”

Jennifer Aniston

Comedy, Action

Sony Pictures

Nicole Hurley and Milo Boyd are ex-marriage partners. Nicole is a strong willed, hard-nosed newspaper reporter. Milo is an ex-cop turned bounty hunter, who owes gambling debts.

Milo is assigned to pick up Nicole on a bench warrant because she missed a court date for an issue she considers unimportant. Nicole is following a story about a suicide that involves the police department in something possibly illegal. When Milo locates Nicole she is digging into her story and soon people are chasing them, trying to kill her. She tells Milo about what she believes and that she suspects one of their good friends of being involved. Nicole and Milo work together to discover who the real killer is and along the way find that they still care for each other.

They catch the killer, Nicole gets her story, and Milo gets the girl – to court. They decide to give their relationship another chance.

I like Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler but I wasn’t wild about this movie. It had some funny parts but not funny enough to carry the whole movie. It is worth watching on TV, but for the price of a movie ticket, and especially popcorn and a coke on top of that, there weren’t enough funny scenes.

Starring: Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario, Catherine Keener, Uma Thurman, Pierce Bronson

Director: Chris Columbus

Writers:

Craig Titley (screenplay)
Rick Riordan (novel)

Studio: Fox 2000 Pictures

Rating: PG-13 (Parental Guidance Suggested)

Book Released: June 28, 2005

Percy Jackson thinks he’s just a troubled kid with really, really bad luck. After being attacked by his psychotic pre-algebra teacher, he finds himself in a life or death race to the safety of a place called Camp Half-blood. Once there he discovers this is a camp for children with a parent who is a Greek God and that he is a son of Poseidon. With this realization, his luck goes from bad to worse.

He barely has time to take it all in before he has to embark on a quest to save the world from an all out mythological war. With the help of two fellow campers, Percy has to make his way to the underworld while navigating his way from one side of the United States to the other and through all the monsters in-between. If he can make it through this alive, he might just save more than humanity.

Mythology, heroes, and boy-meets-girl. This book/movie/series has it all.

I LOVED this story. My son and I started reading The Lightning Thief together and then both found ourselves skipping ahead when the other couldn’t be there to read it. Rick Riordon did an amazing job of creating Percy’s world. The way he bounced myths and legends off of each other made me feel like I was coming home to a place I already knew. It didn’t take us long to read all five books in the series.

The movie was an excellent adaptation of the first book. Although there were many differences, I felt they did a good enough job that the differences were not disappointing. I highly recommend both the movie and the books, but if you want to know how the story ends without having to wait for the next movie to come out, the books are definitely the way to go.

Starring: George Clooney, Anna Kendrick

Directed by: Jason Reitman (Thank You For Not Smoking, Juno)

Awards: Numerous, including Golden Globe

Running Time: 1 hr. 49 min.

Genre: Comedy, Drama and Adaptation

MPAA Rating: R for language and some sexual content

Blurb: Ryan Bingham (Clooney) is a corporate downsizing expert whose cherished life on the road is threatened just as he is on the cusp of reaching ten million frequent flyer miles and just after he’s met the frequent-traveler woman of his dreams.

In terms of flowing water, this movie is more like a steadily moving mountain stream, rather than Niagara Falls, but the acting and characterization are well done. There is no perfect happily ever tied up neatly with a bow, but the viewer is left with the knowledge that Ryan has been forever changed by the events in this glimpse of his life. He’s a man I wasn’t sure I liked at the beginning of the movie, yet I was intrigued by him.

Natalie Keener (Kendrick) has a plan to change the company Ryan works for, thereby threatening his status quo. When he’s charged with showing her why her plan won’t work in the real world, he takes her on the road with him and deeper facets of his personality emerge. It’s as if Clooney peels off layers, getting deeper and deeper into the heart of the man. Kendrick is no slouch in this department either. By the end of the movie, I admired Natalie and not only liked Ryan, but wanted to give him a big hug and a bit of advice.

Amy Adams
Matthew Goode
Romantic Comedy PG

Amy Adams, cute in anything she does, plays the female lead to the handsome Matthew Goode. As Anna Brady, she is the in-control yuppie girl from New York that can’t get her boyfriend of four years to propose. With her boyfriend gone to Dublin to attend a medical meeting, Anna’s father reminds her of the leap year tradition in Ireland of the female proposing. Anna makes plans to be in Ireland to propose on leap year day.

Bad weather brings her plane down in England where she gets a boat to Ireland but still needs to make her way to Dublin, which is all the way across country. Enter Declan, (Matthew Goode) a pub owner that she pays to take her to Dublin. He doesn’t want to go because he thinks there is nothing good in Dublin, because his ex-girl is there. When Anna offers him enough money to save his pub, he agrees to take her. After many mishaps and adventures, the two make it to Dublin. Each has learned something new about themselves along the way. Anna returns to American with her husband-to-be but realizes that she has left what she really needs in Ireland.

She returns to Ireland to propose to Declan.

This is a sweet movie. There are beautiful pictures of Ireland and the scene where Amy Adams climbs a large hill over wet ground to a castle in four inch heels is impressive. This is not the best romance I’ve ever seen, but it is a good one. At the risk of repeating myself, Matthew Goode is worth the trouble. I will buy the CD on the day it comes out.

I’m going to say it right up front that I’m a fan of Matthew Goode. I’m a member of his fan club. He is my favorite up and coming actor, so this review will be biased because he is the romantic lead in this movie.

Conner Mead has it made. He’s rich, successful and can have any woman he wants. His love em’ and leave em’ attitude is well known in the circle he travels and is actually one of the quirks that draw women to him. For Conner, life just can’t get any better. When he’s invited to attend his brother’s wedding, he heads out with one resolve: to talk him out of making the biggest mistake of his life. What Conner doesn’t know is that he’s about to take a trip through hell and the choices he makes this weekend will determine just how good life could be.

After seeing his childhood sweetheart, Jenny, Conner is forced to take a trip down memory lane in a Christmas Carol-type adventure. He’s confronted with girlfriends from his past, present and future, and is left after each trip to ponder life without Jenny in it. With the end of the weekend fast approaching, his window of opportunity is starting to close. Will Conner make the right decision? Or will his skewed view on life end up ruining not only his future, but his brother’s as well?

I love anything “Christmas Carol.” It’s rare for me to find a Christmas Carol-type show that I haven’t seen, but each year I look for them. I was thrilled when someone told me about Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. As soon as I realized it stared Matthew McConaughey (oh my!), I knew it would be a keeper. McConaughey and Garner were perfect in their roles. Even though I knew how it had to end, the writers did a great job of giving this story a unique feel. If you are looking for a fun, sexy story where the hero gets exactly what he deserves (you’ll have to watch it to see what I mean), then Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is one you’ll want to see. I LOVED it!
