Get your creative juices flowing…Whet your writing appetite…Enter the Petit Fours and Hot Tamales blog’s month-long writing competition.
The grand prize winner will receive a critique (consisting of a read of the first 20 pages of an unpublished manuscript and a two-page synopsis) from Literary Agent Chelsea Gilmore of the Maria Carvainis Agency.
The Top Five finalists will receive a copy of Cooking with the Petit Fours and Hot Tamales, a concoction of favorite recipes from our blog members, guest chefs – authors, editors, agents and publishers who blog with us every week – and our valued readers.
Does your story have the right ingredients? Do you have what it takes to be the Top Tamale? We’re looking for your best paragraph or first 100 words (Paragraph and/or total entry NOT to exceed 100 words.)
Competition starts March 2nd at www.petitfoursandhottamales.com. Contest rules are available on the blog. The winner will be announced on March 29. The critique will be provided on March 30.
Contest Information and Rules
Coming March 2nd, a month-long writing contest. Winner will receive an agent critique!
Entries consist of one paragraph only or up to the first hundred words. Paragraph and/or total entry NOT to exceed 100 words. Any entry exceeding 100 words will be automatically eliminated from judging.
Entries may be in any genre except for inspirational or science fiction due to agent’s preferences.
Entries will be accepted on the following Wednesdays: March 2, 2011, March 9, 2001, and March 16, 2011. Only the first 100 entries posted after 6:00 a.m. EST on each of these three Wednesdays will be eligible for judging. Contest closes to entries each Wednesday by 9:00 p.m. EST. No entries will be accepted before or after the posted times.
Five semi-finalists from each day’s entries will be posted the following Monday on the comments section of the entry day, for a total of 15 semi-finalists. Semi-finalists from the March 16, 2011 entries will be announced on Saturday, March 19, 2011. All fifteen semi-finalists will be required to submit the first five pages of their manuscript by email (address will be provided to them) no later than Monday 21, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. EST. Five finalists will be chosen from the fifteen semi-finalists. The top five finalists will be announced March 23, 2011.
The five finalists’ entries will be posted on March 23, 2011 and reader comments will be encouraged. The top five finalists must submit up to the first 20 pages of their manuscript and a two page synopsis by e-mail (address will be provided to them) no later than March 25, 2011 at 12:00 p.m (noon) EST.
Chelsea Gilmore of the Maria Carvainis Agency will choose one Grand Prize Winner and the announcement of the winning name will be made on March 29, 2011. Grand Prize Winner will receive their critique on March 30, 2011.
All work entered must be your own original work and not attributable to any other person.
Entrants must be unagented at the time of submission and not have published a work of full-length fiction (over 40,000 words) within the last 24 calendar months.
Each entrant may only enter one paragraph/entry per week, period. No multiple email addresses, different user names, etc. Multiple entries will automatically disqualify the entrant.
Each entrant may post a new entry each week provided they have not been awarded semi-finalist status. Semi-finalists may NOT post a new entry.
If you are not a semi-finalist, you may post the same entry in weeks two and three, or try your luck with a completely new one.
Winning a critique does NOT guarantee representation by agent Chelsea Gilmore. It does guarantee a critique and nothing more.
Semi-finalist judging is handled by members of the PFHT blog and is subject to our own personal whims, likes, dislikes, and basic subjectivity. We strive to be fair, but cannot guarantee that you will agree with our choices. By posting an entry, entrants agree to hold all members of PFHT, Chelsea Gilmore, and the Maria Carvainis Agency harmless for any comments or criticisms including those posted on the blog by guests.
International entries are accepted provided they are in English, and that the entrant agrees to accept a critique delivered electronically if they are awarded the Grand Prize.
Prizes consist of: a Petit Fours and Hot Tamales Cookbook for each of the top five finalists. One grand prize winner will receive a critique from agent Chelsea Gilmore of the Maria Carvainis Agency consisting of a read of the first twenty pages of an unpublished manuscript and a two page synopsis.
